Working from home with Colin Hall

1. Please give us a brief introduction of yourself.

1 – for many years I worked in the City and loved wearing my tailored suits; many people used to comment on how good they looked. Two years ago I moved to rural Shropshire and set up a renewable energy business. I spend much of my time now looking like farmer Giles in tweed or in my shooting gear tailored by Caroline (I have yet to wear the kilt and jacket though, sorry Caroline, blame Covid!). I’ve dressed “down” now a little and wear two gorgeous linen suits, one green and one blue to meetings with investors / trade associations. It’s a refreshing change from the somewhat more formal City attire.

2. Why did you decide to buy a bespoke suit?

2 – post lockdown I’ll continue to wear the linen suits and hopefully, when the deer stalking season restarts in August and Covid allows, off to Scotland we go and kilt finally gets worn.

3. How has your dress code changed since lockdown?

3 – I am a scientist at heart having done a Chemistry degree at Imperial. Post degree I worked in IT consulting at Price Waterhouse and Accenture. I then worked at UBS and Credit Suisse (CS) as investment banking Chief Data Officer (CDO) and then finally at CS as group CDO. I retired early to move closer to my parents and nature. I live near Oswestry on the Shropshire / Welsh border in c 12 acres of beautifully tranquil countryside with my 8 week old pup, Loki and my telescope observatory.

4. Will you change the way you dress after lockdown?

4 – I attended a Stonewall dinner and won the auction for my first bespoke suit and have not looked back since.

5. What do you miss most that you have taken for granted before lockdown?

5 – the local village gastro pub. It’s open for drinks now and food in a couple of weeks; can’t wait.

6. What has been the latest addition to your daily routine?

6 – my 8 week old Springer Spaniel pup Loki; he’s adorable.

7. What has kept you sane during these bleak times?

7 – The peace and tranquility of my little patch of my paradise in Shropshire oh and red wine and good cheese.
